The Floorwalkers - I Need A Dollar (Aloe Black Cover)

Two weeks ago, The Floorwalkers’ Daytrotter Session hit the internet.  Now, they’ve released this retro styled video of their cover of Aloe Blacc’s I Need A Dollar.  Good choice shooting at the Mug & Brush in Columbus! These guys just cannot stop movin’ and shakin’.

JACK heads to NASHVILLE and MEMPHIS
Heading to Memphis, TN this weekend and stopping in Nashville on the way.  I definitely want to spend some more time digging through the record stores this time through. If any of you have recommendations of where I should stop, shoot me a message or reply to this post. I took this photo at Goner Records when I was in Memphis last September.  I’ll most definitely be stopping there again.
Elvis is King.

PS: If you happen to live in Memphis, or plan to visit soon, check out the great theatre going on at Playhouse on the Square.  I’ll be seeing fellow tumblr blogger and best friend Kelsey Hopkins as Natalie in the musical Next To Normal this Saturday.

    Class Actress - Bienvenue

Since I first saw Class Actress open for Small Black a while back, I have been obsessed with the music and drooled over singer Elizabeth Harper’s elegant and edgy style.  She has just released her golden new music video for the single “Bienvenue” off of her LP Rapproacher.  The video portrays every girl’s dream. Elizabeth wanders the streets of Paris while wearing gorgeous Jean Paul Gautier and Dior pieces, quietly inhabits a chic top floor apartment, and falls in love with a handsome French man.  Good lord, what I would give to live that life?  Tout le monde. Until then, I’ll be living vicariously through Class Actress.

    Bienvenue à Paris, mes chéris.

    Charitable Monsters

If you have ever seen Columbus’ favorite band of 2011 live in concert, it’s very likely your face was melted off your skull by their fiery electro-rock tunes.  The Town Monster is back and making plans to turn up the heat on 2012.  Their first mission of the year:  take a monster bite out of hunger.  How will they complete this mission? By throwing a rockin’, drunkin’, dancin’, boozin’, food collectin’, fundraisin’, party of epic proportions TOMORROW NIGHT (Friday, January 20) at Skully’s Music Diner.  This will make the 3rd Annual Full Belly Food Drive that The Town Monster has hosted with CD 101 at 102.5fm.  The line up also includes raucous rock n’ rollers, The George Elliot Underground, Karate Coyote, Phil Cook, and C.J. Townsend. Sounds pretty amazing, right?  Well my friend, if you need more convincing, check out Spoonfeed Columbus’ interview with The Town Monster’s drummer and sex cymbal (see what I did there?), Matt Grady.

Interview by Spoonfeed Columbus’ JULIAN SMITH follow him on twitter @DANGERSMITH

Julian Smith: Friday marks the third annual Full Belly Food Drive! Tell me a bit about its history. How did it originate and how has it progressed?

Matt Grady: Our manager, Zach Johnson, originally had the idea to host an annual food drive. Food drives and fundraisers are nothing new in the Columbus music scene, and many bands do a great job when it comes to giving back. The difference with this food drive is that we want to make it bigger each year in terms of how much food is raised and how many people and bands we can get involved with it. We reached out to CD101, now on 102.5 fm, our first year holding the event, and they donated a generous amount of airtime to promote the event and have been a huge help in making each year a success through their sponsorship. Last year we raised over 2,000 lbs of food and we are aiming for 3,000 lbs this year. All proceeds benefit the NNEMAP in the Short North. (It is the church with the butterfly doors on the corner of High St. and E. 3rd)

JS: The Town Monster was arguably Columbus’ most popular band in 2011. Certainly one of its most talked and written about. It seems like it’d be easy for you to blow out a show for the band’s financial gain, but you consistently play free and charitable shows. Why is it so important for TTM to give back to the city its thriving in?

Columbus Band, The Floorwalkers Record with Daytrotter!
My dear friends, Columbus’ The Floorwalkers, recorded an amazing session with the ever cool music website, Daytrotter!!!  So proud of these guys!

The Floorwalkers, a Columbus, Ohio, group of roots rockers, give us the feeling that one-night stands can be some of the most beautiful things anyone can ever experience. They don’t need to be justified. It’s good for good’s sake. As a matter of fact, with the amount of tenderness that you hear in lead singer Jon Elliott’s voice and lyrics, you’d swear that these chance meeting and these intimate, naked rolls in the hay were the right way to do these things and that there’s a special kind of appreciation given to these sorts of evenings or afternoons where some sweet looks and some uncontrollable urges tap into one another, flying around like demolition derby drivers bracing themselves for the crash that will really get their blood pumping - kinda the reason they drive in these things in the first place. - Daytrotter

Bear in Heaven - The Reflection of You

It’s no secret that Jack in the Pocket adores Bear in Heaven.  Their music is phenomenal, they gave one of the best endings to an interview ever, and they’re three of the nicest dudes around.  Here’s a shimmering new track from their upcoming album I Love You, It’s Cool due to drop on April 3.  I have NO WORDS for my excitement for this record to come out!  NO WORDS.

Hey Columbus, don’t miss these guys on March 30 at The Basement!!!

    Fanfarlo - Shiny Things

On Monday, NPR premiered Fanfarlo’s mind-bending new music video for their single “Shiny Things” from their upcoming release Rooms Filled With Light. The band also released a trippy video for the song “Replicate” last September.  After these amazing teases, I am incredibly antsy to hear the rest of the album!

Rooms Filled With Light hits stores on February 28. The band will be touring North America in March and April.

“nomadic skeletons are kicking at the ground.”
    by Laila Elizabeth Archuleta

Music: Adrian Lux - Teenage Crime

Wanderlust-inspired photographer, Laila Elizabeth Archuleta, has created a beautiful video that captures the essence of her roaming spirit with clips from her adventures between June of 2001 and January 2012.

Laila states: “There is something about travel that is so vividly ingrained in me. The oscillation of moving vehicles is more soothing than any mother’s hymn could be. Comfort is feeling at home in an instance in which you will very well never be able to return to. There is such severe lack of constants, so ‘let the great world spin.’”

If you dig this, be sure to check out Laila’s photography website for more eye candy.

If you’ve been following this blog for some time, Laila’s name may sound familiar. That’s because she shot the stellar photos for our interview with Neon Indian back in 2010.

Fort Wilson Riot - For All The Little Things

Many, many great bands have sprouted from the seeds of romance.  For example, The White Stripes, Arcade Fire, Mates of State, John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band are just a few!  I’ll be so bold as to add Fort Wilson Riot to that list. What a magical musical couple these two make! Minneapolis’ Amy Hager and Jacob Mullis craft intimate and aggressive avant-garde tunes that tug at heartstrings and fill you with an uncontrollable urge let your appendages flail in a wild dance.  Amy’s sultry singing mix with Jacobs gruff vocals and combine with synths, drum machine, driving guitar, and even some trumpet.  The couple is constantly touring, making frequent stops in Columbus, OH to play with their good friends The Town Monster. They’ll be announcing more dates very soon.

Pick up a copy of Generation Complex, Fort Wilson Riot’s split EP with Phantom Tails.  If you’re like me, you won’t be able to stop listening (or dancing).

    Dog Bite - Prettiest Pills

BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW!  Check out this fresh slice of chill pie from Dog Bite! The mastermind behind this audio awesomness is Atlanta, Georgia’s very own Phil Jones.  This guy is a wave wizard.  He plays synth, some percussion and back-up vocals for Washed Out’s band. I had the pleasure of meeting him when I interviewed Ernest Greene last year.

If this is any indication, it looks as if we should expect great things from music in 2012.

I posted about Dog Bite’s track Machino Machino on my old blog a few months before it closed, so incase you missed it, HeadUnderwater reblogged.
