RECORD SHOPPING WITH THE ALLAH-LAHS
SXSW 2013
Three weeks ago today, my friends and I rented a van and drove 20 hours from Columbus, OH to Austin, TX for SXSW. While I just recently physically recovered (minus the numbness in my toe from 10 miles of walking in impractical shoes everyday), my experiences from those four whirlwind days replay through my mind on a constant loop, 24/7. So many IRL moments, many I failed to capture with my iPhone.
VIDEO: NEW MYTHS - FALSE GOLD
The new-wave-babes of New Myths have been hard at work recording their debut album, playing shows in NYC, and shooting this haunting music video for “False Gold” which premiered today on Refinery29. Their debut LP is slated for release this summer. These ladies are going to blow up in no time!
P.S. That ravishing redhead is my dear friend Britney! :)
VIDEO: TORO Y MOI - SAY THAT
Chaz Bundick invites you to dust off those disco balls and polish them to a glorious luster with his new album Anything in Return.
While I enjoyed Toro Y Moi’s 2011 release Underneath the Pine, it didn’t connect with me quite like Causers of This. I felt it paled in comparison with the sparkle and bounce of the single “I Can Get Love" (which never fails to get a party started anywhere).
However, each time Anything in Return hits my ears, a sudden urge to throw an enormous dance party (complete with flashing lights and a light-up dance floor) washes over me. Track after track is laced with infectious grooves, bumping bass, and beats that automatically induce uncontrollable hip-shaking, like Mr. Bundick demonstrates in the “Say That” music video above. Even the slower, more laid back songs like “Cola” and “High Living” ooze Chaz’s signature swagger. This LP smoothly transitions from dance-floor to bedroom and back to dance-floor in one fail swoop. Mmmmhmmm.
